Darden’s Dean Bruner on When, Where to Study
Over the weekend, dean Robert Bruner of Darden School of Business updated his blog with a post on Getting an MBA: When and Where. To prospective applicants asking themselves whether now’s the time to get an MBA, Bruner’s answer is an unequivocal yes.
“I think that the stronger argument is based on the long-term view: we are in the midst of a great industrial revolution, fueled by growth in global trade, productivity, innovation in information technology, social liberalization in civil and political rights, and the rise of a middle class in emerging countries,” Bruner writes.
Getting an MBA degree now, he adds, prepares one to participate proactively in this industrial revolution: inventing new products and services, founding companies, solving problems, and leading large and small enterprises. From the perspective of the long term, this is an excellent time to get an MBA.
Bruner poses four questions to help guide prospective applicants in their decision on where to apply:
- In what theater are you ambitious to work? Local? Regional? National? Global?
- What do you need to learn to operate on the stage to which you aspire?
- How do you need to learn?
- How do you define “best”?
