Stacy Blackman’s B-School Buzz
Welcome back to another edition of Stacy Blackman’s B-school Buzz! Whether it’s insight gleaned from an information session, finding work-life balance in the trenches, or a new opportunity for entrepreneurs, our bloggers have wisdom to share that can benefit all would-be applicants.
Supporting aspiring military entrepreneurs –The HBS grads behind the Military to Business blog have announced the launch of a new service for military personnel–the Business Plan Mentorship Program. By providing feedback, awards and possibly introductions that can help individuals or teams take their idea to the next level, MtB says the program could help with fundraising or with b-school applications for those planning on applying.
Essay feedback with a twist — This week we share another completely original post by b-school hopeful Sanket, of “Project Inception” fame. In it, his friend Rahul Sahaya calls Sanket a ‘mutant’ who possesses incredible powers–not the least of which is being an encyclopedia of all things MBA. “I am sure someday he’ll overcome his self-imposed hindrance and actually write a GMAT on his way to a successful MBA application,” Rahul says.
Finding balance when all seems urgent — Firmly entrenched in her duties as a Teach for India fellow, Mukaam is finding it difficult to manage all aspects of her job while carving out a moment or two for herself. Unlike her previous life as an engineer, which she believes was much easier than teaching, there is no turning her mind off just because she’s out of the classroom.
Insight from the Stanford info session — The Phoenix recently attended a Stanford information session at Bangalore and calls the experience rather eye-opening. In fact, the new information is making him change the “Why Stanford” essay significantly. “I highly recommend that folks visit the target schools or at least attend the information sessions to get a feel for what the schools really stand for – beyond the platitudes,” he writes.
