Duke Fuqua Grads Flock to Consulting

Recent data gathered by the Career Management Center at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business indicates nearly a third of class of 2013 grads have chosen consulting jobs upon graduation.

Deloitte continues to heavily recruit Duke MBAs, hiring 26 graduates. Other top consulting firms—Bain and Company, McKinsey and Company, Boston Consulting Group, Accenture LLP, and PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP—also hired multiple graduates.

Associate Dean for Career Management, Sheryle Dirks, notes that Duke MBAs pursue these positions because consulting “offers them the chance to apply many of the frameworks and skills they learned in business school, often while working with clients in a variety of industries and at locations around the globe.”

Starting salaries and signing bonuses continued to rise, according to the latest report. From an average of $112,000, salaries climbed to $115,000, while signing bonuses crept to more than $29,000 from a reported $27,000 the previous year.

The overwhelming majority of graduates (88 percent) accepted employment in the United States; six percent will work in South America and four percent took jobs in Asia.

Graduates self-report this information and more data is expected in the upcoming months, the school says.
