Summer Reading

For everyone out there who may find themselves on a tropical beach or lounging by a rooftop pool this summer, resisting the temptation to givein entirely to the siren song of summer sloth may be to your benefit. Put another way, there is at least one easy way to keep honing your business edge while still enjoying the surf. What is it, you ask?  Read a book.

While the issue of mixing business with pleasure is debatable, mixing business and leisure, can, in moderation, clearly help your career and business schoolk prospects in tangible ways. The following is from a list of summer reading recommended by BusinessWeek:

1. Strengthsfinder 2.0, Tom Rath (also currently #1 on the Wall Street Journal best-seller list)

2. The 4-Hour Workweek, Timothy Ferriss (#8 on the WSJ list)

3. Women & Money, Suze Orman (note that this title is described as “strictly for beginners” by BW)

4. Bad Money: Reckless Finance, Failed Politics, and the Global Crisis of American Capitalism, Kevin Phillips

…check out other books on the list here.

If you are more in the mood for fiction, try The Goal, by Eliyahu Goldratt and Jeff Cox. Also check out the Wall Street Journal Book Index.
