B-School’s Impact on the Family
The stress of an MBA program is tenfold when the prospective student is a plus-one (or two or three, for that matter). When entire families are uprooted and new jobs must be found for spouses–and schools for children–it doesn’t take a genius to surmise that everyone must be on board for the two-year sojourn to work.
Francesca Di Meglio‘s recent piece in BusinessWeek explores this issue, and encourages such students to consider the needs and lifestyle of those around them as well. To ensure smiles all around, partners and families of applicants must be part of the application process from the very beginning.
“If the family is not happy, [the move] will not be a successful experience,” says Anna Millar, associate director of the MBA program at the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School.
