Chicago Booth’s Martinelli Looks at School Selection and “Fit”

rosePicRose Martinelli, associate dean for student recruitment and admissions at Chicago Booth School of Business, updated The Rose Report blog Wednesday with her thoughts on school selection and finding the right “fit.”

To get the self-assessment started, Martinelli advises applicants to ask themselves how they learn best, whether they’re more entrepreneurial or prefer following a structured route, and have they taken the foundation courses earlier in their career. Next, she suggests taking a look at factors such as location, size, curriculum structure and brand recognition.

“While there is only one MBA degree, no two MBA programs are the same,” Martinelli writes. “From curriculum structures to size and location, each program is unique in its blend of resources across a continuum of options.”

Her blog entry on “fit” draws a concise comparison of core curricula at Chicago Booth and Harvard Business School, making it easy to see why doing the research really is vital to selecting the program best suited for you. “Knowing yourself and articulating how a particular school suits your needs is the essence of fit,” Martinelli says.
