Handling Rejection…Look for the Silver Lining

It happened to Warren Buffet and Sun Microsystems co-founder Scott McNealy, and everyone knows that Bill Gates and Steve Jobs enjoy phenomenal success without that coveted piece of parchment. Today’s Wall Street Journal blog “The Juggle” takes a look at how people handle rejection–a timely subject during admissions season.

A ding from Harvard Business School lead Buffett to enroll instead at Columbia’s graduate school of business, where he met two mentors who taught him principles of investing that helped him amass his wealth.

“The truth is, everything that has happened in my life ”¦ that I thought was a crushing event at the time, has turned out for the better,” Buffett says in an interview. With the exception of health problems, he says, “you learn that a temporary defeat is not a permanent one.”

Comforting advice at times like these. Read the WSJ entry for more famous tales of failure turned fortuitous.
