Stacy Blackman’s B-School Buzz

Welcome back to another edition of Stacy Blackman’s B-School Buzz, where we share the latest goings-on from the MBA applicant and student trenches. This week, our Buzz bloggers recount their internship experiences; offer advice to future applicants; and dive into a challenging spring semester.

The beginning of the end—As he enters the last semester and home stretch of his MBA degree, Part-Timer reports that he’s taking a record nine credits this term and predicts an intense spring ahead. While he hopes to have time to regularly update readers on his progress, Part-Timer does promise to continue uploading his write-ups for business case analyses on a weekly basis.

A fruitful internship— Following a lengthy hiatus from blogging, Chris Garvin returns with updates on completing his MIT LGO internship at Amgen, which lead to a job offer as a senior engineer at the company’s Rhode Island office. Kudos! Chris offers high praise regarding the LGO internship experience, noting that Amgen, like many partner companies, creates positions like this one specifically for LGOs.

Targeted tips—As someone who has been offered a seat at both Kellogg School of Management and UM Ross School of Business, any advice Pyarapopat shares regarding the admissions process is definitely worth a close read. He suggests, among other things, that future applicants really dedicate themselves to researching the schools to determine which are a good fit. Even if you manage fewer applications this way, he believes the chances of success would be higher.

A glimpse from the Other Side—If you’ve ever wondered what the folks in the admissions office are thinking as they wade through thousands of applications each year, look no further than this entry from the Stanford MBA Admissions blog. Reading the large volume of high-quality applications that Stanford receives is a challenging and enriching job, writes Associate Director of Admissions Allison Davis.
