Stanford GSB’s Commitment to Diversity

You could say that 2020 has been a year of awakening on many fronts. Calls for racial and social justice —particularly in education— have become increasingly urgent. And the Stanford Graduate School of Business is at the forefront of elite business schools when it comes to taking action to create change. Stanford GSB’s commitment to diversity is evident in its newly released second annual Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Report.

Here are some of the highlights of the 2020 report.

Increase Representation

• Expanded MBA Admissions diversity outreach efforts and developed a full week of diversity in leadership online programming, resulting in 1,500+ attendees over 23 events
• Solidified timing for the first BOLD Fellows to be awarded with the Building Opportunities for Leadership Diversity Fellowship with our MBA Class of 2023 Round 1 admits
• Received applications for the Provostial IDEAL Fellows cohort for early-career scholars engaged in issues on race and ethnicity

Build a Culture of Inclusion and Belonging

• Set a goal to make every new case study written with diverse protagonists
• Hosted a new Rising Scholars Conference — for underrepresented minority Ph.D. students and postdoctoral scholars — and provided a forum to present their work
• Offered new content related to race to Stanford GSB alumni, including a 12-part speaker series and a listening tour

Make a Positive Change Beyond Stanford GSB

• Produced free public resources on race, anti-racism, and allyship, including a new webinar and podcast for Leadership for Society: Race & Power
• Named three alumni task force co-chairs to provide thought leadership and accountability for the Stanford GSB Equity Initiative
• Added a new focus on “justice” within the Stanford GSB Impact Fund, enabling students to serve underserved communities

Increase Diversity at the GSB

• Created new ways to engage diverse MBA prospect audiences such as the Sí Se Puede Latin American Fee Waiver program
• Doubled the size of the Stanford GSB Research Fellows Program by focusing on building a diverse pipeline for the Ph.D. program
• Increased gender diversity hiring for faculty over the past two years, hiring seven women and seven men

Create an Inclusive Classroom and Learning Experience

• • Integrated new curriculum into classes and programs focused on topics of DEI — such as new diverse cases created for Managing Difficult Conversations
  • Initiated three new diversity groups by students to engage and support students
  • Collaborated across departments to enhance our guest speaker database to capture the diversity of our communities
