Stacy Blackman’s B-School Buzz

Welcome back to another edition of Stacy Blackman’s B-School Buzz, where we share the latest goings-on from the MBA applicant and student trenches. This week, our Buzz bloggers celebrate their acceptances; describe a valuable lesson learned overseas; and make headway in their GMAT prep.

In at TepperCCatcher says she almost had a heart attack when the great news came in the form of a flash video in her inbox. Congratulations on getting in, and on the Forté Foundation scholarship as well! With the big changes coming to the Tepper School of Business MBA curriculum this fall, it should make for an amazing two years.

Making progress—After deciding recently to get serious about his test prep strategy, Sanket provides an update this week on his progress mastering sentence correction using the Manhattan GMAT Prep guide. Despite mixed reviews from others, Sanket says he found it a good set for practice, scoring in the 90% range to start. Keep up the great work!

Most valuable lesson learned—In his most recent reflection on the study abroad experience in Nantes, France, George Washington ’12 Part-Timer writes that the most important and valuable “graduate level” MBA lesson he learned was make space for meeting with friends, pals, buddies, classmates, colleagues, and strangers. If the rest of the world can balance socializing with their other commitments, he wonders, why can’t we?

A little self-reflection—This new term has brought a serious change of pace for Lori of HEC Montreal, now that the core coursework is behind her. Although she has 23 assignments due in the next five weeks (yikes!), Lori is enjoying the subject matter in all five classes and appreciates the fact that two of the courses place an emphasis on soul-searching rather than theories.

A new chapter begins—After a very long absence from the b-school blogosphere, GMAT Yatra checked in briefly this past week to let readers know that for him, the Indian School of Business just wasn’t meant to be. He has been offered a seat at the Great Lakes Institute of Management in Chennai and plans to go for it. We wish you the best of luck as your journey as b-school applicant comes to an end.
