Northwestern Kellogg Breaks Ground on New Construction

Kellogg School of Management broke ground yesterday on the future home of the full-time MBA program— a state-of-the-art facility that promises to inspire new forms of learning and community building by combining the physical and virtual in never before seen ways. Dean Sally Blount presided over the groundbreaking ceremony, accompanied by prominent donors, alumni, and faculty.

Designed by Toronto-based KPMB Architects, the new global hub will be five stories and approximately 410,000 square feet of classrooms, seminar rooms and community gathering spaces. The building’s flexible design allows for lecture-style classrooms to be reconfigured into large seminar rooms, and offices can become study rooms.

“The design of our new global hub embodies our commitment to inspiring brave thinking and catalyzing bold action as we meet the changing needs for management education in an increasingly complex and demanding global marketplace,” said Blount in a statement.

This event coincided with the kickoff of Transforming Together, Kellogg’s $350-million capital campaign that already is halfway toward that goal. Blount officially launched the campaign during a private event with donors Thursday night, the school said.

“We asked for a design that captures Kellogg’s courageous and collaborate culture,” said Blount, who noted that the building’s completion in late 2016 would cap off the school’s seven-year plan for transformation. “It will set a standard for how we teach at Kellogg.”

Construction is expected to begin in early 2014.
