Stacy Blackman’s B-School Buzz

Hello, and welcome back to the latest installment of Stacy Blackman’s B-School Buzz! This week, our Buzz bloggers provide application updates, an inside look into the crazy-busy schedule of a first-year MBA student, and share an insightful interview with a top business school’s dean. Enjoy!

Sage advice from a dean’s perspective— This week, MBA Chic shares a comprehensive interview with the dean of UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School, James Dean. In it, he shares his thoughts on leadership development at the school, the newly launched online MBA program known as MBA@UNC, outreach efforts for female MBAs, and so much more. Don’t miss this one!

Two down and two to go— There’s nothing like the feeling you get when you’ve submitted your applications–a huge sense of relief and accomplishment that you really must savor before the anxiety of the waiting game begins. This week, The Phoenix shares the great news that he’s already submitted two applications well before the R1 deadline, leaving him enough time to apply to a fourth school during the first round after all.

Buzzing from all the busyness— Some people seem to thrive in a pressure-cooker environment, and from the description of activities in Pyarapopat‘s latest post, he’s definitely in that camp. With the part 1 for Kellogg School of Management already submitted, a major project at work completed, and his own Internet venture underway, we second the notion that he’ll be completely exhausted come October. We wish him bon voyage as he heads off to six days of sunshine in Greece next week, and look forward to updates on the Wharton School, UM Ross and Kellogg fronts when he returns.

B-school life in overdrive— For anyone wondering what a day in the life of a first-year is like, a glimpse at Ellipser‘s recent post will convince you that the b-school experience really does take place at warp speed. Actual classroom hours are such a small percentage of the week…you then add in reading and study time, quizzes, papers, core team meetings, recruiting, club meetings and events, and of course, socializing. Managing to schedule sleep into the mix truly is a feat!
