Stacy Blackman’s B-School Buzz

Welcome back to another edition of Stacy Blackman’s B-School Buzz, where we share the latest goings-on from the MBA applicant and student trenches. This week, our Buzz bloggers provide a blow-by-blow of the typical student’s week, extol the virtues of Admit Weekend, and revel in recent rankings news.

Snapshot of Oxford life—Anyone considering University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School should take a look at Bayo Babalola’s latest post detailing a week in the life of an Oxford MBA student. “What exactly do Oxford MBA students do? Do they spend all week at the pub? Or in the Library? I’ll answer this with a typical MBA phrase…..’It Depends’,” he writes.

Rankings and more—Our recently added Buzz blogger Lori of HEC Montreal celebrates her program’s position on the recently released QS Top MBA rankings and muses about the difference between her BA (Linguistics and English) and MBA programs. While people typically do not have the same view of a BA since it’s mainly focused on “soft” skills, she says she values both equally for both the analytical skills she has developed, as well as the different perspective her background offers.

A long look at Kellogg—We haven’t heard much from The Phoenix (a.k.a. Abhishek Gutgutia) since he announced his admit to Kellogg School of Management back in December, so it was a nice surprise to read his recent recap of Admit Weekend. Judging from his observations and experiences on everything from Dean Blount to the professors to the course offerings in entrepreneurship, it sounds like Abhishek is thrilled with his MBA program choice.

Something useful this way comesEssay Tricks reblogged some extensive tips for applying to business school, and promises to get busy writing something more useful for his fellow applicant friends in the future.
