U.S. News Ranks Best B-Schools

U.S. News Media Group today released the 2011 America’s Best Graduate Schools rankings online. The new rankings, along with an extensive education and career guide, will also be featured in the May issue of U.S.News & World Report magazine, on newsstands starting April 27.

Here are the Top 10 Business Schools, with some ties, most notably in the top spot. MIT rose significantly, from the number-five spot last time around.

1. Harvard University (MA)
Stanford University (CA)
3. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Sloan)
4. Northwestern University (Kellogg) (IL)
5. University of Chicago (Booth)
University of Pennsylvania (Wharton)
7. Dartmouth College (Tuck) (NH)
University of California-Berkeley (Haas)
9. Columbia University (NY)
9. New York University (Stern)

U.S. News compiled these rankings after a fall 2009 survey of all 433 master’s programs in business accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International.

Data provided by the schools was used to calculate rankings based on a weighted average of a range of indicators, including program quality as assessed by the deans and directors of peer schools as well as recruiters, placement success and student selectivity. This year, U.S. News‘s new part-time MBA rankings are based on a 5.0-scale peer assessment survey. Previously, the part-time MBA ranking methodology was based solely on the number of times a part-time program was nominated to be among the 10 top programs.

Specialty rankings in the following areas are also available:

  • Accounting
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Executive MBA
  • Finance
  • Information Systems
  • International
  • Management
  • Marketing
  • Nonprofit
  • Part-time MBA
  • Production / Operations
  • Supply Chain / Logistics
