B-Schooled Turns 300: A Kellogg Startup Reunion With Nicole Small and Erin Krawiec
Three hundred episodes of the podcast calls for something special. So, for this B-Schooled milestone, Stacy Blackman turns the mic toward two of her closest friends from her Kellogg MBA class: Nicole Small and Erin Krawiec. The three of them didn’t just share classes. They founded a dot-com startup together and sold it before they’d even collected their diplomas.
This Paths Less Traveled conversation rewinds to their pre-Kellogg lives, from McKinsey to litigation consulting to a brand-marketing summer at General Motors, and to the late-1990s moment when consumer internet was just taking off, and the three of them started meeting on Stacy’s apartment floor to chase idea after idea. What they eventually landed on became a Fortune magazine cover story and an acquisition, all before graduation.
But the startup is only the opening chapter. Nicole traces her path from running the Perot Museum of Nature and Science to leading Lyda Hill Philanthropies and the IF/THEN initiative, which is reshaping how girls picture themselves in STEM. Erin shares how she built Pitch Your Peers Seattle, a collective-giving community that turns philanthropy into a Shark Tank-style pitch night.
Along the way, the three friends get into what business school gave them beyond the accounting and the frameworks: the confidence to take calculated risks, work through ambiguity, and invest in relationships that outlast any single job.
