Darden MBA Essays for the Class of 2029
The University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business has previewed the Darden MBA essays and application updates for the 2026-2027 admissions cycle. Here’s what you need to know if UVA Darden is on your shortlist of target schools, plus the deadlines you’ll want to track this cycle.
What are the Darden MBA Essays?
The 2026-27 application cycle will include several updates designed to help applicants share a fuller picture of who they are and why Darden is the right program for their MBA journey. Relationships are central to the Darden experience, and the team seeks to get to know candidates through the process.
Short-Answer Responses
Darden calls the short-answer questions an important opportunity to help the Admissions Committee get to know you beyond your resume, transcripts, and test scores. As you prepare your responses, Darden encourages you to be specific, reflective, and authentic.

Careers With Purpose
At this time, how would you describe your short-term, post-MBA goal in terms of industry, function, geography, company size and/or mission? How does it align with the long-term vision you have for your career? (200 words)
New Video Essay
This year, applicants will complete a video essay as part of the Full-Time MBA application. The video essay component will give candidates an additional way to share their voice and communication style with the Admissions Committee while also showing their critical thinking skills.
At Darden, the classroom is highly interactive. Students learn through discussion, debate, preparation, reflection and active engagement with their peers. The video essays are intended to complement the written application and help the Admissions Committee learn more about how applicants think, communicate and engage with ideas.
