B-Schooled Podcast Episode #263: Overcoming MBA Anxiety With an HBS AdCom, Part 2

B-Schooled podcast on MBA Anxiety

For this very special three-part B-Schooled series on MBA anxiety, we’re joined by SBC Consultant Pauline, a Wharton MBA and former associate director of admissions at Harvard Business School. She served on the HBS MBA Admissions Board full-time for four years and has also presented and lectured at Stanford, Tufts, and Villanova.

In addition to her admissions expertise, Pauline brings a background in divinity and pastoral counseling, having served as a Level 1 hospital trauma chaplain. She later earned a doctorate in educational leadership, blending her passion for business, education, and spirituality into a perspective that’s both rigorous and deeply human.

In last week’s episode, we explored what MBA anxiety is, its origins, and strategies for managing it in the moment. This week, host Chandler and Pauline go deeper into how applicants can reframe stress as an asset in the MBA application process.

In this episode, they:

  • Share examples of how applicants have reframed stress to improve their MBA essays

  • Show how thinking through “worst case scenarios” can strengthen interview prep

  • Roleplay situations where weaknesses are transformed into strengths

  • Provide a template for discussing failures or missteps in the MBA context

This conversation is essential for any applicant who wants to turn stress, self-doubt, or MBA anxiety into tools for growth.
