B-Schooled Podcast Episode #301: The Two Words That Crack a Hard GMAT, GRE Question

B-Schooled

Most people preparing for the GMAT or GRE know they’ll face questions built around arguments. Far fewer know there’s a small set of words that quietly tell you how each argument is put together. On the latest B-Schooled episode, Anthony Ritz, director of test prep at Stacy Blackman Consulting, makes the case that these “indicator words” are one of the most powerful tools a verbal test-taker can carry into the exam.

Indicator words are the little signposts that mark the moving parts of an argument. Some flag a conclusion, others a premise, and a few warn you that the writer is about to switch sides entirely. Anthony walks host Stacy Blackman through what they are, why so many students overlook them, and a handful of tips that change how you read a critical reasoning question. One of them doubles as a genuinely good essay-writing rule.

Then things get fun. Anthony puts a hard, official GMAT role question in front of Stacy completely cold, strips away almost everything on the screen, and shows how two words alone can point you to the right answer. Whether you’re studying for the GMAT, the GRE, or even the LSAT, it’s a great demonstration of how much these signposts can do once you learn to spot them.
